jean wells story is not an extraordinary one in the world of soul, although her voice certainly was. her biggest hit >have a little mercy< from 1967 was a glorious slice of deep soul, a plea to a lover, whom she is addicted to, but who doesn t seem to notice. her gospel-trained voice perfectly encapsulating those feelings, whilst a stark arrangement dominated by an ethereal organ and dramatic horn stabs heightens the unbearable effect this man is having on jeans life. yet at the time this record only reached number 25 in the r&b charts, just another bit of genius amongst many, thrown out by the black american music industry at one of its most creative and profligate periods.

following his successful >tears in vain 12inch< on perspectiv, promising new producer simon garcia continues his quest for the holy-grail of modern house and techno as we set forth into >cavern<. and indeed >cavern< is a breathtaking ride - a warm pulsating synth pattern is coaxed along by a dusty, filtered kick before we are greeted with rushing bright percussion and a thunderous lead kick. wild fx open up the floor with the first ecstatic break and from there on the track runs with a mind of its own, exploding with rapturous drama and tasteful restraint. bringing us back down to earth at least for a moment. bass ii bass treads more swinging, groovy territories in a classic ny styled house track, updated for 2012. freaky, pitching vocals swirl around a tight bass-led rhythm section, telling a futuristic story of hopeless hedonism. the emotive-piano house vibes of options will likely raise a few tingling hairs for those well acquainted with steve bugs recent dj sets. the perfect blinded-by-the-morning-sun moment, mr. garcia really shows of his classy production skills with this slinky, moody slice of classic house.

february sure isnt the month to laze around when the new rennbahn baby is chasing for your dance. the crotalus ep starts as if there was a crotalus right behind you! the original mix delivers a powerful basedrum and deep synths. the snake sounds, vocal snippets and the use of reverb and delay build a wide and huge atmosphere which leads us directly out of the reality into the heart of the jungle where youd love nothing better than to stay forever. watch out - you shouldnt stop dancing unless you want to get bitten by a snake! the marco fender remix on the flip side takes us out of the jungle into the club. an impulsive beat highlighted by a sub baseline comes to a nice replaying synth melody. here the vocal snippets are not applied to fulfill the song with a deep atmosphere but to complete the hypnotic rhythm of it. watch out - the snake still follows you at every turn! finally miyagis remix comforts us with safety - marching towards the end, it seems like we got rid of the snake. now we can wholeheartedly lose ourselves in very deep synths, floating hi-hats and a mystical and tempting melody. as if this wasnt enough the outstanding beat wont let you take a break and forces you to keep on dancing

token is 5 years old. i never planned to do anything special for this occasion. however, when i received these 2 new tracks from phase, all just fell into place. this release pretty much sums up what token stands for since day one. both tracks are fierce pieces of relentless yet deep techno, in-your-face yet very subtle rhythms, all credited to phases detailed drum programming, keen sense of atmospherics & sound processing.

after 7 years of staying out of the limelight, mille & mr.hirsch (playhouse, newpolish, r.a.n.d. musik and much more!) are back with new material. the new imprint owes its name to a group of berlin artists called apollo krieg who produce fashion, artworks and whacky installation art. with berlin as their base, mille & mr.hirsch hang around & see much of their work influenced by the work of this group and decided to name it after this group of artists true to the motto: nowadays the guys from apollo krieg also produce music. side a: (apollo/alpha) golden age is the classical, heart-warming, romantic and seemingly never-ending deephouse epic which finds its place somewhere between detroit house, balearic, jazz and funk. it is always a tad larger than life and opulent in harmony and melody but, with due to its well-defined instrumentalization, it seems somehow traditional. this track has a 9-minute arc of suspence and is devoid of any drum-machine orgies and razzle-dazzle a unique piece of shit!side k: (krieg/kokain) kinky love is a bit more modern, with more track, less melody and less music. the mix of strong samples (e.s.p./kinky go) with slightly dark and deep functional track make this 8-minute track a potential floorfiller! best regards apollo krieg berlin

the young, newly founded label lofile proudly presents its first ep wowmom brothers & sisters. wowmom is a collective of three djs and producers that focus on deep house but are influenced by a far wider range of music - with shapes and strings of detroit techno to chicago house. together, off. exile, simon busse and marbod got four beautiful minimalistic tracks recorded on vinyl with remixes by johannes albert, mod. civil and boytalk. dark, but clearly minimalistic, pearling and with a profound deepness, lfr 001 is like a small detail of a picture. you can dream the rest around it and imagine what will follow.
organs of love are the power-sleaze duo of james mckinven (organs, love) and alicia matthews (vocals, love). james mckinvens musical odyssey started with playing synth in (kraftwerk, suicide-inspired) electro band berlin blondes. he then moved on to altered images. after that he worked in genetic studios learning from the modern day genius that was producer martin rushent (human league, the stranglers, the buzzcocks). then went on to form one dove and worked with maverick genius andy weatherall. after that he drifted back to where it all started, analog electro, and miss alicia matthews. alicia matthews has quite a different background one from fine art and performance. through working together at the same bar and having many intoxicating late night chats, they decided to try to get back to a 70s theatrical, musical performance: where live music and art combine for something beyond the rock gig vibe. and luckily enough, miss matthews has quite the pair of pipes a true vocal delight. the result is organs of love who frequently perform live around glasgow and have quite the reputation of thee band to see. videos can be provided, but they are not for the faint-hearted! not that optimo music ever provide a dull moment

7 year old spaniard alberto pascual is the latest techno talent to be welcomed into the plus 8 fold with vertigo, his debut ep for the label. a skilled dj and live performer, pascual has been producing since 2004, with over 30 releases to his name, all of which pursue a direct and powerful techno style. its much the same on vertigo, the title track of this ep which hits loopy depths immediately. dramatic fx, crunchy hats and tension mounting hisses fill out the spaces between the beats, but the militant, marching groove never wavers. truchas rancias is more reserved: economical arrangements characterise the techno eeriness this time, forever hinting something is just around the corner but never quite showing you. final vinyl cut continuous learning is more unhinged, with swirling synths, dripping water sounds and shadowy voice sounds all coming together like classic plus 8 weaponry.

one year ago digitaline has released raouls very first release. it has been one of their most successful eps so far and both tracks instantly found their audience and brought raoul onto the main floors of the entire world, where it still stands confortably one year later. so what better than to celebrate one year of the label and welcome digitaline back home? same format: two tracks of deep techno, fat grooves and aerial melodies made for the dance floor. almost made on the dance floor. true! digitalines sound is always very inspired by their live performances and with those two tracks the boys wonderfully managed to transpose the best of their live skills, energy and dynamic. before finally being released here, both tracks have been played live on many floors throughout 2011, adjusted slowly set after set to touch every soul listening. a-side neon is a massive groove infecting the entire track through long breaks, while synth strings generate waves of tension in the piece. b-side comet is build around a big round bassline and concret noises that give the track its organic motion. the melodies of the track seem to come out of a fairy tale, dreamy arpeggios that defy the laws of gravity.
